Brazilian conductor Antonio Seixas has died in Portugal after suffering a fatal heart attack.
Seixas had been a guest conductor with the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, Recife Symphony Orchestra, Porto Military Band and Matos de Galamba Philharmonic Band in Portugal, Pontevedra Music Band in Spain, Barra Mansa Symphonic Orchestra, Brazilian Symphony Youth Orchestra, Barra Mansa Symphonic Band and Petrobras Symphony Orchestra Brass Ensemble.
The conductor held a PhD in Social Memory from the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro, and a Masters in Music from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, where he served as a Professor of Trombone and Tuba from 2001 to 2004 and 2006-2007.
Seixas was a founder and a conductor of the “Orchestra Barrados no Baile” since 1998. He also held a position of Artistic Director and Conductor of the Banda Filarmônica do Rio de Janeiro.
